Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Toll and Die Maker is a craft technician who works independently and uses judgement to cut, shape, finish and maintain tools made of metal. 

  • Uses tools and dies to build fixtures; creates dies as required to construct new fixtures
  • Repairs dies, molds and tools when needed; disassembles molds, jigs, tools and fixtures, then reassembles when repaired.
  • Reads and understands blueprints and complicated schematics as required to create and build new fixtures, tools and machine parts.
  • Uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create designs and/or turn designs into blueprints
  • Inspects completed tools and dies for signs of imperfection or damage that may affect functionality
  • Regularly tests all equipment, tools and machines to ensure they are arranged and set properly and working efficiently
  • Modifies machines to control speed, material feed, or path of cut as required to ensure a quality product is produced within specifications
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures and tools.  Operates cutting torch or welding equipment.
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement and corrective action activities 
  • Perform housekeeping, 5-S, and other duties as assigned  

Qualifications

Minimum:
•    High School diploma or equivalent
•    Attain ACT WorkKeys Assessment at certified job profile skill level

•   Tool & Die Test Required

•    6 months of experience in industrial maintenance; or a combination of Technical school degree, craft certification, or completion of maintenance skills/craft courses and experience in industrial maintenance

Preferred:
•    Associates degree in Industrial Maintenance or Technical school degree
•    5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, machinist and/or related fields
•    Working knowledge of drawing software such as AutoCAD
•    Proficient in reading blueprints, designing and fabricating parts
•    Experience in the diagnostics and repair of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and/or robotics
