Job Description

Summary:

The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor is responsible for all of the daily functions and manpower needs of the Shipping & Receiving Department. The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor also ensures that all incoming and outgoing materials are traceable, damage-free and are handled in a safe manner to preserve the quality of the product. The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor contributes to customer satisfaction by ensuring that finished material is shipped in a timely manner, free of damage, in accordance with (customer) release requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining documented work instructions for safe and proper handling of incoming materials.
  • Responsible for ensuring that material traceability is maintained when product is received via the use of proper Identification tags and entry of coil data (including location) to the information system.
  • Responsible for verification of all incoming supply shipments to ensure correct delivery. Responsible for generating miscellaneous receivers.
  • Responsible for efficient scheduling of all incoming (pick-ups) and outgoing (deliveries) to and from BlueScope of Georgia, Inc.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining documented work instructions for proper loading of trucks in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Responsible for ensuring that departmental employees are properly trained to correctly process all shipping documents (Bill of Lading, Packing List, etc.).
  • Generates and evaluates daily shipping reports and receivers to track and troubleshoot departmental performance.
  • Responsible for ensuring, that departmental employees are properly trained to quarantine all defective material encountered throughout the departmental work area using HFI procedures.
  • Responsible for investigating and isolating causes of damaged material throughout the facility. Implements and verifies corrective action to mitigate such defective conditions.
  • Ensures that all departmental employees follow company safety rules and regulations. Conducts safety meetings on a regular basis to reinforce compliance with such rules.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place at Metal Coaters of Georgia, Inc.
  • Communicates daily with the Production Manager and internal personnel from Sales, Maintenance, Operations and Quality Control in order to help resolve any problems and help achieve company goals.

Environmental Impacts of this Position

The Shipping / Receiving department has a responsibility of avoiding environmental impacts such as; the release of oils, grease from forklifts and cranes, solvents, paints and various other chemicals by accidental puncture, while performing your daily duties. You also have the responsibility to recycle all recyclable materials such as: paper, cardboard, ink cartridges etc. Caution must be taken to avoid spills and good housekeeping practices are essential as a preventative measure. If a spill occurs, BCP Spill Response Log and Report Procedure must be followed.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of five years of, related industrial work experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence. Also, the ability to communicate information (in small group situations) to other employees.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Also, the ability to solve problems which, involve multiple variables in a standard situation.

Other Skills & Abilities:

Incumbent is required to operate an overhead crane, drive a forklift and use power tools. The incumbent should also possess basic computer (data entry) skills and should be capable of recognizing metal defects.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; bend; stoop; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance. The employee will be required to be capable of lifting a minimum weight of 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally performs near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate.
