The Biery Buyer will provide purchasing support to the Procurement Department. This position is responsible for placing orders and maintaining inventory to meet production demand under the direction of Procurement. This position will work closely with all internal teams including production, sales, logistics, and quality,  as well as external vendors.

Essential Accountabilities

  • Place purchase orders promptly based on supplier lead times and confirm receipt of purchase orders by suppliers.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory stock levels set by management and replenishing those levels based on historical movement, forecast data, and promotional activities.
  • Follow up on back orders, expedite order deliveries, and make special delivery arrangements
  • Communicate to the department the expected delivery date.
  • Researches and selects vendors in given circumstances, evaluates vendor performance, and utilizes different vendor sources to fill orders as directed.
  • Processes requisitions for supplies, researches products, clarifies specifications, documents competitive bidding, and types purchase orders.
  • Maintains an up-to-date filing system on pricing and vendors.
  • Manages discrepancies between purchased price and invoiced cost. Works with suppliers and internal accounting when needed.
  • Searches out alternate vendors or supplies during periods of shortages or stockouts.
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships to achieve a collaborative partnership.
  • Provide continuous improvement in all aspects of the procurement process.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • This position requires two+ years' experience as a buyer or any combination of experience, education, or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skill, and ability required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with sales representatives, in person, or through written communication
  • Ability to assimilate information and make decisions; work under pressure in a detailed, organized manner
Work Environment
The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions when working around moving machines in production facilities. Protective clothing or gear such as goggles, gloves, and shoes may be required. 
Physical Demands
Work requires some physical strain such as long periods of standing and walking in a production facility, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Other physical demands include climbing, crouching, and reaching.
