Position Summary

The VP of Data & Analytics will lead Berkshires data strategy and data science initiatives for our expanding data architecture, formalizing capabilities to leverage data in order to drive productivity and investment performance.  The VP of Data & Analytics will be responsible for data-driven decision management techniques, including business rules, data visualization, process automation, machine learning and optimization.  They will direct the quality, availability, discoverability, and utility of information assets, and develop and implement strategies for the utilization of data to support business goals and objectives

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (These are the main duties/tasks of the position)

  • Responsible for the development, design, implementation, maintenance and support of data warehousing and data mart technologies and systems.
  • Oversees the development and operations of the organizational balance between front-end desktop/client environment and data warehousing back-end processing functions.
  • Provides guidance regarding the use of data warehouse systems, capability of systems to deliver information and subject matter expertise relative to current systems and emerging technology.
  • Manage data team responsible for data ecosystem and initiatives
  • Evolve data architecture
  • Automate data pipelines and leverage AI and predictive analytics to create investment advantages
  • Visualize data for various business use cases

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge/Experience:
    • 5-7 years in data analysis and engineering ideally in an investment management context
    • Demonstrated management skills with track record of building teams and identifying, mentoring, and growing talent in-person and virtual
    • Requires experience designing and managing cloud data warehouse (Snowflake/MS Synapse Analytics)
    • Requires knowledge of Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure
    • Requires experience with relevant coding languages (SQL, Python, Java, Spark, Scala) for reporting, data ingestion, and automation
    • Requires experience with MS Azure Storage
    • Requires experience with data warehouse internals and integration with other related technologies for data processing, management, and reporting
    • Requires experience with API development
    • Requires strong Power BI skills including Power Query, data modeling, DAX, and visual reporting
    • Aptitude for organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple priorities, using critical thinking and problem solving
    • Demonstrated multi-modal communication style that reaches every stakeholder, specifically excellent verbal, and written communications
    • Ability to communicate with and manage up to senior management
    • Collaborative working style with inclusive work and thinking behaviors, commitment to excellence in teams and work product, with a strong work ethic
    • Demonstrate emotional intelligence in high pressure and sensitive situations
    • Tenacity, patience, and perseverance to work with business deals from beginning to end of process

  • Technical/Educational Requirements: 
    • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • Requires advanced Excel functions including PowerQuery, VBA, Power Pivot
    • Requires experience with data science tools like R/Python for statistical analysis
    • Requires experience with data warehouse/data lake and similar technologies like Microsoft Synapse or Snowflake
    • Experience with Yardi and real estate is a plus
    • Master’s degree is a plus
    • Demonstrated ability to use and learn new technology (e.g., computers/hardware, mobile, software, cloud-based programs)
    • Proficiency with computers, keyboards, monitors and telephone headsets.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Products (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, Power Point)
