Job Summary:

The Project Engineer will encompass performing engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction activities. They are the senior engineer on-site and have the authority to make decisions and change plans.

This position will travel up to 75% and when not traveling will be based out of our Bradenton, FL office.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Construction Management, Construction Engineering Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or related field

 

Experience:

  • At least seven years’ experience in heavy civil construction
  • Has worked with, and has knowledge of, change order recognition and management.

Skills:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Can work in a high demand environment and is able to meet established goals and objectives.
  • Proficient with a wide range of software (or willing and able to learn) including, CAD, Blue Beam, HeavyBid, HeavyJob, MS Project or P6, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Works well in an unstructured environment.
  • Formulation of technical proposals, including technical means and methods, schedules, and pricing.
  • Advanced construction software operating capabilities.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Review project proposals and plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures, project staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources.
  • Confer with project staff to outline work plans and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within the prescribed budget.
  • Review status reports for management, client, and others.
  • Plan and design temporary structures, following construction and government standards, using design software, and drawing tools.
  • Coordinate project activities with Ballard personnel, subcontractors, and joint venture partners.
  • Assist the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the project, including safety, performance, budget, scheduling, equipment management, and quality.
  • Develop and maintain resource-loaded project schedules.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Work with, and be part of, the estimating departments during project procurement phases.
  • Act as a Quality Control/Quality Assurance representative as required.
  • May act as the Ballard’s lead representative in the absence of the Project Manager.
  • Organize and manage subcontractors.

 

Physical Demands / Working Environment:

  • Working outdoors in various temperatures and conditions.
  • Wears various PPE (respirators, fall protection, etc.).
  • Must be able to lift to 20 pounds.
  • May work outdoors for long periods of time in various seasons and conditions.
  • Will climb ladders, work at heights, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, ride or work from a barge, pier, vessel, etc.
  • Will travel on various land, water, and aircraft.
  • Lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, squatting for various periods of time.
  • Prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the year.
