Job Description

Responsible for mechanical design, prototype build, testing, and all related engineering documentation on development projects.  On assigned projects, the engineer is responsible for design integrity, technical detail, compliance with applicable codes and regulations, and documentation.  The engineer is responsible for his creative solutions and also for gathering related inputs from other employees in project-related disciplines through normal communication processes including project meetings called by the Project Manager or another person on the project team.

  • Develop and implement mechanical designs within the guidelines of current AWTX processes while adhering to all aspects of good engineering practice.
  • Document designs and changes in a comprehensive manner, using those engineering analysis methods/techniques held within a Mechanical Engineering degree and related experience and training.
  • Provide application information and Engineering support to manufacturing, inside sales, distribution, and customers for existing and special products.
  • Occasionally assist the Specials Products Group with engineering calculations and analysis.
  • Implement expansions to standard product lines when repeated sales indicate a need.
  • Implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for products that may arise from feature enhancement needs, suggested cost savings, new releases, manufacturing problems, field problems or failures, or supplier changes/updates.  Must be able to sign off for these changes and make stock disposition decisions.
  • Make determinations as to test and analysis requirements for the proving of product reliability and parameter control.  Implement and/or call for tests to determine failure limits, environmental susceptibility, component reliability, and overall safety and soundness of each design.  On occasion, may need to participate in the design of product test and production test equipment.
  • Document test results and reports so that data can be retrieved easily for future reference and related projects.
  • Document procurement specifications clearly so that Purchasing can order parts without further clarification.
  • Drive the mechanical design process through creative concept clearance, design detail, mathematical and scientific verification, prototype build, test and results interpretation, engineering documentation, and manufacturing release.
  • Coordinate priorities and tasks for interdisciplinary teams on project efforts, communicating technical detail and oversight effectively.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related engineering field
  • 3 or more years of engineering experience  

Additional Experience

  • 3D CAD software experience
  • Exposure to the use of Finite Element Analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills   
  • AutoDesk Inventor experience
  • ANSYS experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility

Other

  • This position may require up to 3 weeks of domestic travel per year.
  • This position may require infrequent international travel.
