The Services for New Americans (SNA) team empowers resettled refugees, migrants and housing unstable families and individuals to become self-sufficient by connecting clients to community services and facilitating community integration. The Resettlement Assistant is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day activities associated with the resettlement of refugees

Furthermore, this position represents Ascentria and SNA among a variety of community outlets including, but not limited to faith, social service, local schools, public agencies and municipal partners. The position is part of the broader Services for New Americans team serving and provides other support as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide transportation to families in a safe and timely fashion.
  • Assist with apartment set up and the move in process for families served.
  • Assist with the procurement and distribution of good to families served.
  • Communicate and update stakeholders in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Accompany individuals and families at appointments or other engagements.
  • Assist with program service delivery logistics, including orientation of new program participants and participating in, or facilitating group discussions.
  • Support basic cultural orientation including accessing community resources and public transportation.
  • Provide a welcoming environment that embraces cultural differences while educating families about the cultural norms in their new home.
  • Assist with airport pickups, orientation, and assist with negotiating services as needed.
  • Assist staff with all activities related to supporting refugee and migrant families upon arrival and on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist refugees to live as self-sufficiently as possible and to integrate into the community while maintaining compliance of the refugee programs contracts.
  • Complete and maintain documentation in a timely manner and within accordance with contractual standards as assigned.
  • Maintain calendars and room reservation systems for the New American Program Team
  • Maintain a welcoming environment in the New American Welcome Center, including prepping for meetings, making sure office and classrooms are prepped for programming
  • Act as backup for front desk and reception duties

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Organized with great attention to detail and great flexibility
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable and responsible for attending all appointments and meetings scheduled
  • Experience or openness to working with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds
  • Strong computer skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with moving, packing, and apartment setup.

Physical Demands are generally:

Active - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit, lift, carry, talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.

  • Required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Frequent moderate physical effort required
  • Requires driving own vehicle to various sites.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to problem solve, make decisions, interpret data and organize. 

  • Ability to do detailed work with high degree of concentration
  • Ability to work under stress or in a fast-paced environment.
