Senior Vice President of Finance

Arc Broward is looking for an experienced Senior Vice President of Finance to join our senior management team! The Senior VP of Finance is a key leadership role reporting to the CEO in the areas of finance, facilities management, technology, and risk management.

 

As the Senior Vice President of Finance, you will be responsible for financial management (budgeting, accounts payables and receivables, payroll, purchasing, etc.), compliance with all governmental financial regulations and the fiscal integrity of the agency. He/she oversees other areas, including facilities/transportation and information technology (IT). The SVP of Finance will monitor compliance and recognition for government (state and local) contracts and private grants. She or he must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace while leading administrative teams.

What does the SVP of Finance do?

Financial Management

  • Oversee the budgeting preparation and planning process, budget reviews, and budget revisions by cost center.
  • Ensure that finance team maintains financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and monitor the use of all funds.
  • Oversee the coordination of all audit activities.
  • Represent the organization to financial partners, including financial institutions, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for the board of directors and funders; prepares and communicates monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations.
  • Develop and implement formal finance policies, procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.
  • Oversee the accounting department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function.

Operations

  • Oversee operational activities at the agency’s main campus and six residential sites, including but not limited to custodial, preventative, and emergency maintenance, transportation, and overall facility appearance.
  • Oversee the selection and utilization of contractors and vendors in handling the preventative maintenance and repair of buildings, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, among others; grounds keeping and overall facility appearance.

Information Technology

  • Responsible for advancing the vision and strategy methodologies used to innovate technology systems to enhance and streamline operations.
  • Develop and implement formal IT-related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.

Team Management

  • Recruit, retain, develop, and manage direct team members, to include managers in finance and operations; guide larger multidisciplinary teams outside of direct span of control.
  • Establish and monitor team member performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance appraisals.
  • Mentor and develop team members using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.
  • Engage other members of the leadership team to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures that all financial, IT, and facilities solutions positively support operational delivery and strategic needs.

What are the requirements?

  • Demonstrated commitment to the social sector with a passion for the organization’s mission.
  • A minimum of a BS; a CPA and/or MBA is a plus.
  • Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner with the leadership team. If coming from the for-profit world, nonprofit board experience preferred.
  • A hands-on leader with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
  • At least five years’ experience as SVP of Finance or equivalent, preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $10 million.
  • Skill in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial, technology and facilities policies and procedures.
  • Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality. Needs to be seen as a team player who is committed to lifelong learning.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
