Job Summary: As a Mechanical Piping Estimator at the Grunau Company, you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase, responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with HVAC, process, and industrial piping projects. This position requires a strong understanding of piping installation and fabrication processes, industry standards, and the ability to collaborate with various teams to deliver comprehensive and competitive project bids.
Responsibilities:
- Project Evaluation: Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to gain a thorough understanding of project requirements.
- Takeoffs and Quantities: Conduct accurate takeoffs and quantify materials, labor, and equipment required for piping fabrication and installation.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Management: Source and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for materials and services.
- Cost Analysis: Analyze project costs, including labor, materials, overhead, and profit margins, to develop comprehensive and competitive project bids.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare detailed and timely bid proposals, ensuring all relevant information is included and aligned with project specifications.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the project management, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure seamless communication and understanding of project requirements.
- Bid Presentation: Present and defend estimates to internal stakeholders and external clients as needed.
- Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and competitor pricing to maintain a competitive edge.
- Cost Tracking: Monitor actual project costs against estimated costs, identifying areas for improvement and lessons learned for future projects.
Qualifications:
- Relevant shop/field fabrication and install experience or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Piping Estimator in the construction or mechanical contracting industry.
- Strong understanding of welding, field install, shop fabrication processes and industry best practices.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook), Autodesk Fabrication CADMEP or REVIT and Bluebeam.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards.
