Endoscopy Center of El Paso is currently searching for PRN Registered Nurse to work Mondays – Fridays who can work cooperatively with staff and physicians and perform a variety of tasks. Major responsibilities include: prepares patients for procedures; assist physician during procedure; provides care for patients in recovery and actively participates in all Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities.
Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills, be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, have a current state license to practice as a registered nurse, maintain basic cardiac life support certification and ACLS, and have at least two years of registered nurse experience. Must speak English and Spanish.
Provides individualized and specialized nursing care to patients in the Center during admission, procedure and recovery phases of their admission. Performs in accordance with physician’s orders, recognized nursing techniques, legal aspects of current nurse practice within the state and the Center’s policies and procedures. Functions cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics. Demonstrates initiative, insight, and judgment in decision making process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluates and completes assessment of patient needs to provide supportive care before, during and after procedures and maintains accurate and complete records.
- Initiates emergency measures as indicated.
- Assists with procedures.
- Provides conscious sedation monitoring.
- Communicates pertinent information to co-workers.
- Provides a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury.
- Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to supervisor and documents same.
- Maintains equipment and supplies to include:
- Cleans equipment.
- Operates and troubleshoots operative and patient monitoring equipment.
- Anticipates and assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and medications.
- Accountable for administration of drugs, IV procedures and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures in a safe and accurate manner.
- Ensures informed-signed consent completed prior to administration of sedation.
- Provides guidance to other staff members assisting with orientation.
- Consults with appropriate supervisor or physicians as needed.
- Seeks educational opportunities and accepts responsibility for own professional growth and development.
- Participates with inservice opportunities and staff meetings.
- Accepts direction from supervisor or physicians and adheres to established routines.
- Maintains patient’s rights to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area or with in hearing range of visitors/family or client.
- Maintains flexibility and performs other duties as required.
- Functions within the legal limits of nursing practice.
- Refers situations beyond ability or function to proper person.
- Reports errors of commission/omission.
- Participates in PI program.
- Initiates IV’s and administers IV sedation under direction of physician.
- Assists in Code Cart Maintenance and Defibrillator Checks.
- Assists in completion of endoscopy log book.
- Accountable for any specimens obtained during procedure.
- Initiates patient teaching and discussion of home instructions, documentation for patient’s understanding.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current state license to practice as Registered Nurse.
- Experience in GI endoscopy preferred.
- Membership in GI specialty or other local, state or national professional societies encouraged.
- Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
- ACLS certification and re-certification is recommended, but optional.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The role is for a PRN, and the Center is open Monday Through Friday and provides preoperative beds, procedure rooms and post procedure beds. In the working environment of the Center, there may be potential exposure to communicable diseases, contaminated blood and body fluids, and hazardous materials.
