The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Senior Financial Analyst for our downtown Chicago office. This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote).  

Starting base salary = $87,000 - $109,000 a year (commensurate with related experience).

The Senior Financial Analyst, prepares and analyzes financial reports, maintains the AHA consolidated forecast, and assists in the development of the consolidated budget. Supports Management with Board preparation, assists with process improvements and resolution of audit/compliance issues, and assesses the impact of current and future business activities. Works closely with Executive Management and finance liaisons across the Association. This position will also assist the AHA CFO  in developing and implementing organizational strategies, policies and practices to advance the effectiveness and efficiency of financial operations

  1. Review and prepare monthly financial reports, statements and dashboards for AHA consolidated performance and individual units relative to budgets and forecast.  Analyze variances and prepare monthly written reports and forecasts.  Assist with development of financial reports, to present to All Staff, Executive Management and AHA Board of Trustees.
  2. Assist management with development of departmental budgets and year-end forecasts, aiding in creation of strategic planning and budgeting process.  Continuously work with operating units to determine training needs to ensure budget owners understand the P&L of their respective cost centers, as well as assist with educating AHA departments on proper budget and financial forecasting techniques.
  3. Meet regularly with operating unit leaders and finance liaisons to review business plans and projects, budget vs. actual performance, and revenue & expense forecasts.
  4. Ensure financial inquiries and requests are resolved and communicated in a timely   manner to Finance team and operating unit liaisons.  Ensure high quality service, resolution and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Evaluate existing systems and processes; make recommendations for improvement and lead the implementation of process improvement, specifically in the areas of business process and organizational planning and alignment to the organization's mission and vision. Aid in long-term planning for the organization, including plans geared toward operational excellence. 
  6. Assist with monthly account reconciliations, month-end closing processes and annual financial audits. Ensure operating unit staff understand their responsibilities at various deadlines. Develop and audit reports as needed to ensure efficient review and reconciliation.   Maintain financial records and files. Assist with streamlining of financial reporting model. 
  7. Develop and maintain strong proficiency with AHA’s budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and financial analysis & reporting systems.
  8. Develop and implement project plans for strategic projects that fall within Finance.
  9. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities and anticipates and identifies potential issues and conflicts and recommends solutions.
  10. Monitors and summarizes progress of projects which include, but not limited to designing spreadsheets and other tools to manage processe and track progress against milestones.
  11. Creates and/or facilitates the development of business cases, return on investment, and cost and benefit analyses to support AHA financial decisions.
  12. Creates and distributes materials that range in complexity such as: project charters, documents, reports, and dashboards for various audiences.
  13. Facilitates and coordinates Operations Committee meetings.
  14. Perform other related duties supporting and executing projects involving finance, financial planning and operations as assigned.
