The Kitchen Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the physical functionality and safety of the hotel’s kitchen equipment and machinery. This role contributes to the hotel’s commitment to delivering outstanding guest service and ensuring the smooth operation of kitchen facilities.

Work Requirements

  • Schedule and complete preventive maintenance (PMs) on kitchen equipment, including ovens, stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, and ventilation systems.
  • Operate and maintain low-pressure boilers for the hot water system.
  • Monitor and maintain other vessels as needed for hot water, kitchen steam, and air conditioning systems.
  • Assist external contractors with repairs of hotel property and equipment related to the kitchen.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with kitchen equipment promptly.
  • Perform necessary repairs, replacements, and adjustments to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Address emergency breakdowns efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Regularly inspect kitchen equipment for safety hazards and address any concerns.
  • Maintain records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Work closely with the culinary team to understand their equipment needs and address any issues promptly.
  • Coordinate with other maintenance staff to ensure seamless operations across the hotel.
  • Keep an inventory of spare parts and tools needed for kitchen equipment repairs.
  • Document all maintenance activities accurately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational/technical training in kitchen equipment maintenance preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a kitchen mechanic in a hotel or similar setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems related to kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of general safety rules, requirements, procedures and reporting requirements necessary to maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
