ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Understand shortcomings of current equipment design and product flow to own the complete equipment improvement life cycle including recognizing equipment issues, designing necessary changes, overseeing fabrication and installation, following through with commissioning, documenting final design, and owning end results.
  • Owns the facility Capital Projects Plan to manage projects from concept to completion
  • Identify opportunities or implement modifications to improve manufacturing processes or products or to reduce costs, using knowledge of industrial processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials, and parts.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop sustainable manufacturing technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, minimize raw material use, replace toxic materials with non-toxic materials, replace non-renewable materials with renewable materials, or reduce waste.
  • Read current literature, talk with colleagues, participate in educational programs, attend meetings, attend workshops, or participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in the manufacturing field.
  • Design, install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment, take ownership to evaluate manufactured products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.
  • Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
  • Work with maintenance technicians to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot issues with existing equipment
  • Lead efforts to design, maintain, repair, troubleshoot and install:
  • Industrial manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Medium voltage electrical distribution systems – 24 vac/vdc to 480 ac volt systems
  • Electrical Safety Circuits
  • Programmable Logic Systems including PLC, HMI, VFD, etc.
  • Provide total commitment to personal safety and ensure others are working in a safe manner as well.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with proven skill levels as directed by Engineering Manager.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement, also provides suggestions to improve processes and participates on team projects.
  • Work cooperatively with production staff to accomplish tasks and achieve departmental goals.
  • Maintain property, plant, and equipment to support and improve the safe production and performance of the operations.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams with different opinions to gain consensus on the correct strategy.
  • Thorough hands-on knowledge of wood manufacturing equipment with a detailed electrical systems and distribution, PLC, HMI, safety systems, AC/DC circuitry.
  • Proven ability to recognize potential safety hazards and develop an engineering solution to eliminate.
  • Proven ability to visualize an equipment process future state and formulate and execute the plan to successfully transform from current state.
  • Ability to work self-directed with limited resources and able to meet challenging timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence upper management and gain buy in from shop floor end users.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to always maintain appropriate confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check, employment verification and drug screening
  • Positive and Verifiable Work History
  • Minimum of 10 years in manufacturing or similar processes
  • Minimum of 5 years in manufacturing equipment field service/repair or similar processes
  • Ability to communicate Bilingually in English and Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Thorough understanding of NFPA 70E and other applicable engineering codes and standards with the ability apply that knowledge in the field and recognize, communicate, and resolve compliance issues
  • Thorough understanding of PLC, HMI, VFD and other programmable hardware technology and the ability to interface with these systems using software, such as RS Logix, to program, modify, troubleshoot, and repair industrial equipment
  • Proficient in CAD software, reading, understanding, and revising electrical drawings, OSHA requirements for equipment design and revision.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • LEAN Certification or prior experience a plus
