Pay Range$25.73-$36.75/hr (based on experience and needs)

General Purpose

To perform all tasks requiring concrete rough carpentry skills

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set and handle wood and metal forms for footings and walls of any height.
  • Erect temporary walkways and ramps.
  • Install rebar for slabs and wall construction.
  • Fasten to forms metal and plastic form liners.
  • Install wood and metal shoring and piling including high work associated with same.
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts, aerial lifts, and skid steers.
  • Work related to height such as edge forms on elevated floors.
  • Shoring for support of floor slabs and walls.
  • Use of welding equipment and cutting torches.
  • Erection and operation of elevator shaft forming systems.
  • Forming of floor slabs on grade.
  • Involvement in placing concrete and finishes.
  • Install, embed items in concrete during and prior to placement of concrete.
  • Wall systems made up of wood, metals, drywall, paneling, prefab. wall panels.
  • Rails for stairs and handicap requirements, install stairways.
  • Floors to include wood and their supports
  • Install various ceiling types including acoustic, sheetrock, metal panel with supporting system.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials, erect scaffolding for all the above.
  • Ability to perform all duties of a finish carpenter:
    • Layout for all craft related work to include grading
    • Assist in layout or earthwork.
    • Build and erect batter boards.
    • Assist in hanging doors.
    • Install locksets.
    • Install hardware, frames, sub frame, and supports.
    • Cabinetry to include overhead units, counter tops of all types, blocking for support.
    • Trim to include base board, casings, stops, and ceiling trim both wood and metal.
    • Install windows to include sash, sub frame, interior trim and exterior trim.
    • Built in furniture such as wood closets, shelving, vanities, and trim.
    • Various finishes including marble tops, plastic counter tops, metal and plastic paneling.
    • Hollow metal door frames and doors, window frames made of metal including welding.
    • Install backing and blocking.
    • Install insulation
    • Caulk as necessary.
    • Ability to read plans and specifications.
    • Walk the jobsite on a daily basis to identify and communicate any potential safety hazards.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • May be subject to overtime on an as needed basis

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, & Experience

  • No specific educational requirements.
  • No specific experience required when starting as a first level apprentice. Skillset to improve with each level of apprenticeship.
  • Carpenters and apprentices must be signatory to the Carpenters Union.

  • Frequently – Exposure to heat/cold, noise, dust, chemicals and working on heights, Crouching/Stooping, Kneeling/Squatting, Climbing, crawling, Lifting/Carrying Up to 50lbs, Lifting/Carrying 50lbs, Pushing/Pulling Up to 50lbs, Pushing/Pulling 50lbs, Reaching (high or low).
  • Occasionally – Grease/Oil, Vibration, Confined spaces, Sitting

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction site, where the employee must wear all company or project required personal protective equipment (PPE), regularly work in outside weather conditions, walk on uneven ground, be aware of close moving mechanical parts, perform in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and the risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is required to work in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
