We are currently looking for a Full-Time Occupational Therapist, Monday-Friday (8am-3pm) at our Brooklyn Preschool Program.

SUMMARY

Under general direction, is responsible for evaluating and treating students in order to facilitate rehabilitation and independence in daily living skills of children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Duties and activities may vary based on assignments and programs.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Evaluates children referred to the program to establish learning and performance capabilities and develop a treatment plan to attain established goals working within the scope of the student’s disability. Evaluation includes activities of daily living (feeding, dressing, grooming, hygiene, transfers), fine motor and gross motor skills, sensory awareness, perceptual motor skills, homemaking, and independent living skills.
  • Develops a treatment plan and goal based on assessment.
  • Selects educational, recreational, and social activities in order to aid students in adjusting to their disability and teaches adaptive skills necessary to perform daily living and/or vocational tasks.
  • Participates in in-service education for other patient care personnel relevant to techniques and objectives of the program.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews as required by each program.
  • Integrates therapeutic intervention techniques into programs or homes of persons served through consultation with parent/guardian and staff at team meetings, case conferences, or through other informal contacts.
  • Documents therapy activities and results on students records, assists in overall evaluation and rehabilitation of their medical/psychiatric condition by conferring with teachers, social workers, nurses, and families.
  • Records progress on all active cases in therapy, monitors therapy status, and makes appropriate recommendations as changes occur.
  • Refers students to other clinical services if such referral is felt appropriate.
  • Designs, makes, and fits adaptive devices for student use such as splints, shoes or braces.
  • Trains and instructs program staff as required.
  • Assists with other duties i.e. arrival, dismissal, feeding, using the restroom, and classroom management.
  • Provides supervision to students and Occupational Therapy Assistants as needed.
  • Maintains equipment and orders supplies as required.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
  • Must be available 3 days a week, 8am-3pm

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • 1 Year of prior Occupational Therapist experience preferred.


LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • Current NYS license in Occupational Therapy

COMPENSATION: $40 - $50/hour + Industry Leading Benefits!
