Deputy Fire Chief of Operations - City of Janesville, WI

Job Description

The City of Janesville Fire Department is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Deputy Fire Chief of Operations to help lead one of Wisconsin’s premier public safety organizations. This full-time, exempt, senior leadership role works under the direction of the Fire Chief and is responsible for overseeing operations, ensuring operational readiness, and providing exceptional fire and emergency medical services to the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage fire department operations, including supervising Battalion Chiefs and indirectly overseeing Captains, Lieutenants, Firefighters, and Paramedics.
  • Ensure readiness and effectiveness in emergency response, risk reduction, and community safety.
  • Develop, review, and implement departmental policies, training initiatives, and pre-incident response plans.
  • Serve as Incident Commander at complex emergencies and act as Fire Chief when needed.
  • Oversee facilities, vehicles, and equipment maintenance, budgets, and capital improvement projects.
  • Represent the department with community leaders, government agencies, and the public, fostering trust and collaboration.

Salary Range: $96,407 – $108,458 annually

Total Compensation Potential: $112,091 – $139,710
